Welcome to Balmedie Primary.  Balmedie is situated about 8 miles to the north of Aberdeen, just off the main A90 road between Aberdeen and Peterhead. The school serves the villages of Balmedie, Potterton, Belhelvie, Whitecairns and the surrounding rural area. There is an Out of School Club, run by Community Learning and Development, which operates before and after school each day. The Parent Council was established in 2007 and there is an active PTA.

In August 2016 the school roll was 491 pupils including the Nursery. Pupils are organised into 15 classes and 3 Nursery classes. There are a number of Pupil Support Assistants and 6 full-time Nursery Nurses. The building is of open plan design with each class occupying a defined area. There is a large gym as well as a carpeted smaller hall. School meals are cooked on the premises. Outside there are two playgrounds and a large field. A portacabin can be found to the rear of the school which houses 2 more classrooms. A Purpose built nursery can also be found to the right of the main school building. The Nursery’s third class is over in our Potterton annexe.

The senior management team is made up of the Head Teacher, and 3 Depute Head Teachers. All DHTs are involved, along with the Head Teacher, in carrying out the school’s quality assurance procedures through classroom observation, work sampling and monitoring teachers’ forward planning.  The school’s improvement priorities for 2016 - 2017 include Curriculum for Excellence, Assessment, Self Evaluation, Personal Learning Planning and Eco and Sustainable Education.

The school is part of the Ellon Schools Network and also the Bridge of Don ASG. Our senior pupils either attend Ellon Academy or Bridge of Don Academy when they transition.
